The Location
On the outskirts of William Morris' favourite town, Lewes, which has lots of specialist shops, cafés, and metric tonnes of history, including the 1000-year old Lewes Castle..
Head into Brighton for the biggest variety of food options, but even if you want to stay closer to Grain Store, Lewes offers plenty; including a coffee roasters, bakery, pubs, and local foodie favourite, Fork.
The South Downs is a haven for the outdoorsy - plenty of cycling, country walking routes, and dramatic coastlines including the chalk cliffs of the Seven Sisters. You can hire push bikes or e-bikes locally, and British Cycling Coach Jamie Lynch offers guided rides on the South Downs Way for the truly keen.
Need to find some kid-friendly amusements for the weekend? The South Downs is an excellent spot - close by you'll find the Bluebell Railway, the Brighton Sea Life Centre and multiple adventure parks.
